new human club

As an autistic woman, I never really understood why we need labels. I know for a fact that we have “man” and “woman” to segregate us. It has always been that way. But why do we need to be separated, if without skin and flesh, we are the same? Except for some differences in bone length, we accomplish the same goal. Both of our bodies are used to maintain ourselves and keep ourselves alive.

I’m happy being a woman, but why is that what others see first? Why can’t I just be seen as a person? And why does that have to affect the way people approach me? Does that make me non-binary? I don’t want to fall under a label. I’m just a human. It shouldn’t matter that I have tits or a uterus for making children. That doesn’t change how I perform next to a man.

I love my body and I wouldn’t change it for a thing, but that’s all I see it as. A body. It’s only a tool for me to use in my daily life; to walk, to run, to eat and drink, to move about. Only my brain is an attachment of myself. My brain can be removed from this body and put into another and it would still be me.

I found out that thinking this way is considered “abnormal”, at least to my friends. I realized that it probably has something to do with my autism. Autistic people do struggle with gender identity, and I’m sure others can relate to my own experience as a woman and as a person.

Is it really that hard to come to terms with the fact that our bodies are just being controlled by our brain? That’s how we can move our limbs, our brain sends signals through our nerves which explains how I was able to write these words to begin with.

Do you feel the same way? Or do you think I’m crazy? Do you want to be “crazy” with me?
